7 | Ann Lee, founder, Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition

Texan Ann Lee is a lifelong Republican, and she's appalled at the hypocrisy of illegal cannabis. Since 2012, she has been working to convince GOP legislators that it's time to legalize cannabis through Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition (RAMP), the organization she co-founded.

Highlights of the interview include:

  • How an obstacle in her son's life opened Ann Lee's eyes to the healing power of cannabis
  • How RAMP has been able to effect change in our cannabis laws
  • What you can do to help legislators do the right thing and legalize cannabis

I used Cannabis for years, grew up in the 60,70 & lived throug the 80’s. In 1988 I suffered a serious back injury resulting in having HNPs from my T11 – S1, also discovering Severe Spinal Stenosis from T11 – S1, along with Scoliosis which has increased by 9 – 12 degrees, severe pathology at my facet joints from L1 – S1. My pain Mgt Dr put me on morphine back in 1998 or 1999, and about 5 years ago they stated doing random UAs. I was truthful and told them I was smoking cannabis for the brake through pain and my UA would show that, I would come up dirty which I did. I was advised that I had to stop if I continued coming up dirty + for THC they would have to cut off my morphine and notify my insurance / employer. I didn’t have a choice I had to play their game. When I was smoking marijuana on a regular basis I completed an Associates Degree in Business, a BBA in Mgt Science with a 3.3 gpa in 1997, also a MBA in Electronic Commerce with a 4.0 gpa Delta Mu Delta in 2000. My pain Mgt Dr wants to reduce my morphine now from 240 mg daily to 50 mg daily, I was taking 360 mg daily. I told my Dr that my goal is to stop taking this morphine totally and use cannabis / marijuana for my pain and take the very bare minimum dosage when and only when my pain is so unbearable that nothing else helps. My Dr knows that I take natural supplements and rather use natural supplements/ remedies than use pharmaceuticals that are just poisoning my liver, kidneys and other organs.
I would like to do whatever I can to help change the antiquated laws and legalize cannabis / marijuana for medical all ages and recreational for adults. There is no comparison between alcohol, tobacco which are legal and killing people every and cannabis / marijuana which by itself is perfectly safe and has medicinal purposes. The laws need to change, We The People Need To Legalize Cannabis / Marijuana and Stop the Propaganda Politics Outlawing Cannabis / Marijuana Once and For All.

Thanks for sharing your story Daniel. The tide seems to be turning, but we can’t relax. We need to vote in candidates who will look at the evidence and pass legislation that will make safe and effective cannabis more available to everyone who needs it. Keep fighting!
